Kermit: Wow! Whoo!
Johnny: Say that again?
Kermit: No I was just talking about David’s wife, she’s …
Johnny: Oh yeah?
Kermit: …absolutely stunning. Yes, yes! Absolutely, just like that.
Johnny: Yours going the same way? My dog tags are panting! I wear them (?)all the time… Russ Joyner is here, Ladies and Gentlemen, Russ is the General Manager of this whole thing that we call "Hollywood and Highland". That includes the Kodak Theater, the Academy- everything! He is the man and he is also Chairman of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Let me acknowledge him now, Russ Joyner! Right over here…
Kermit: Oh… Great! Hi there Russ!
Johnny: Well in just a moment now we’re going to unveil the star, but Kermit, I want you to know that the Los Angeles City Council has this proclamation for you…
Kermit: Oh yeah?
Johnny: … and it says all the things we have been talking about. It was instigated by Eric Garcetti, the Councilman who has Hollywood Boulevard, signed by Tom LaBonge, by all of them as a matter of fact…
Kermit: Yeah?
Johnny: …and I’ll just read the bottom and I will hold this for you…
Kermit: ok…
Johnny: …until we have unveiled your star.
Kermit: ooh! ok…
Johnny: It says "Now therefore be it resolved that by the adoption of this resolution, the City Council of this City of Los Angeles, hereby congratulates Kermit the Frog…
Kermit: That’s me!
Johnny: …on this well-deserved honor of receiving his star on world-famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Kermit: Aw!
Johnny: … and Kermit, as the Mayor of Hollywood, I do hereby proclaim this Kermit the Frog Day in Hollywood!!
(applause)
Kermit: That’s wonderful! Thank you Sir!
Johnny: (says something I couldn’t hear above the cheering)
Kermit: Thank you Mr. Mayor!

Johnny: Alright!
Kermit: Yes!
Johnny: Everyone! I’ll tell you what…
Kermit: Yep?
Johnny: Come on! We’re gonna go unveil the star…
Kermit: Are ya?
Johnny: …and I’ll beat you there!
Kermit:: Are ya? I just wanna say a couple of words. Uh, uh, I wanna thank you all for coming here today, and uh, I feel like I’ve been preparing for this day my entire life because after all these years of working with Miss Piggy I sort of know what it’s like having thousands of people walk all over you every day.
(laughter)
Kermit: I wanna thank everyone for their kind words, Johnny and David and Charlie and, and everybody! Uh, and uh now as you may know, frogs aren’t usually very comfortable being so close to busy roads, so it gives us a kind of run down feeling. But uh, oh that’s a Fozzie Bear joke. But I want to take this opportunity to thank the folks at Hollywood and Highland and the Kodak Theater for giving such a great location… and I promise them I will keep that star shiny and they should feel free to cover me with the red carpet any time they want. Um, but the most important people I wanna thank today are all of you who are over here who are the fans, you know because uh, you represent all the people have given me such a great career, and, and, and, because of you, thanks to you , a short green talking frog from the swamp made a huge splash in Hollywood. And because of you I’m able to stand here today uh, on a huge stack of phone books, uh…
(laughter)
Kermit: …but uh and accepting one of the greatest honors in show business. Uh, and it really is a great honor. When I look around, I was looking yesterday and I saw all the great performers who have stars nearby, uh and I’m proud to be their new neighbor, especially like my friend Edgar Bergen, whose magic with Charlie McCarthy kind of inspired my career.
(applause)
Kermit: …yeah, and my closest friend, Jim Henson. Now, Jim not only inspired by career, he actually inhabited it.
(laughter)
Kermit: …and Jim was a great man whose work moved us all, especially me. Ha! And I know truthfully he would be very, very happy about our receiving this honor today. You know at the end of The Muppet Movie I had a line that sort of sums up what I and Jim Henson and everybody else who’s a part of this great Jim Henson Company uh, tries to accomplish through the years, and that line was, "I have a dream, it’s about singing and dancing and making people happy and that’s the kind of dream that gets better the more people you share it with, and I found a whole bunch of people who share the same dream and that kind of makes us a family", and that includes everybody who’s here today too. Thanks to Hollywood, I’ve had a chance to share that dream with all of you and thanks to the lovers, and the dreamers and you, Hollywood has made me a part of their family. Thank you all!!
(cheering)
(Sweetums appeared at the podium and addressed the crowd for a while before the star was unveiled. He was kind enough to make himself available for photos after the ceremony, and in that heat too!)
